Learning about Contractions

CONTRACTIONS

In Room 16 we have been learning about different language features. One of those language features has been contractions. This helps the children with not only their reading skills but also their writing. I found that the children are starting to use more contractions in their writing since we had begun learning about them. This is wonderful to see. As a learning activity, the children were given an opportunity to choose a contraction of their choice and then create visual flowers to present their contractions. The children really enjoyed this activity and this activity helped them to be able to visually retain all the new contraction words that they had learnt during our teaching session.

Cross Country Term 2 2018

Image result for Free cross country clip art This term at Clendon Park School we had our cross country. It was great watching all the students participate and contribute in cross country. The students were all dressed in their house colours to support their houses.  Also, it was great watching the students motivating and cheering on other students and showing such positive attitudes. In room 16 we talked about that it is not always about winning but rather giving it a go and participating till the end. All the children in Room 16 gave it their 100% which was wonderful to watch. So proud of them all.

Star Dome Visit -Noho Marae

Image result for star dome This Term in Room 16 as part of Te Puawai the children had a chance to have a Noho Marae at Clendon Park School. What a great experience this was. The Tamariki learnt a lot from this experience. The year 3's and 4's from Room 16, 12 and 26 took part in this Noho Marae experience. The Tamariki learnt about Whanaungatanga and marae tikanga and kawa. The Tamariki had also been learning about Matariki in their classes so, as part of their Noho Marae and with the help of parent helpers, we had the great privilege to go to the Auckland Star Dome. It was so much fun!. The Tamariki enjoyed their bus trip on a double-decker bus and learnt a lot about Matariki from the Star Dome Educator.

In class, as part of learning about Matariki the children in Room 16 learnt how to make a Matariki Star out of paper. It was such a  great experience and the children were so proud of their stars when they had completed them. This was integrated into our maths lessons about patterns and rotations and tessellations.
