"The true strength in our classroom lies in the collaboration of learners not in the knowledge of one expert"

In Room 16 we have had the great opportunity to be able to have computer time every week. This week we used the class laptops to learn how to work collaboratively with each other as well as cooperatively. This was a great learning for the Tamariki in room 16 as we learnt a great deal of skills and these skills also linked in well to the values we have been learning about which is whanaungatanga and manaakitanga . Here are some skills that we learnt:

  • How to work together cooperatively.
  • How to teach as well as learn from each other.
  • When we are working on the laptops how do we look after them.
  • Sharing of ideas.
Today the children learnt how to use Study ladder and how to log into Study ladder and how to enter their usernames and passwords. They learnt how to access allocated tasks for Mathematics and Reading.

"Together everyone achieves more"

Image result for kiwican Kia Ora Whanau's. Room 16 has had the great privilege of being part of the Kiwi Can Programme. If you do not know what the Kiwi Can programme entails, let me give up a quick description.

Kiwi Can teaches children values such as Respect and Integrity and delivers fun filled learning to schools. It teachers essential life skills that will prepare them for years to come. It involves a range of awesome physical, mental and creative challenges-plus high energy, fun, safe and interactive lessons that reinforce the schools goals and curriculum.

These past weeks the children have learnt a great deal from Kiwi Can. They are always excited when they know they have Kiwi Can. These past weeks the children have learnt skills such as: Positive communication and how we can show this and what does it sound like. Also, what our body language tells us. For example: How can our body language tell the teacher we are show active listening skills-Looking at the speaker, making eye contact and facing body towards the speaker and sitting up straight.

They also learnt how to show co-operation in terms of Team work. How can we work together in a group positively, and show good leadership skills.

It also been great seeing the Rangatahi of Room 16 implement these skills they have learnt at Kiwi Can in the classroom as well as around the School. Well done Room 16! Keep up the great work!

School trip to Totara Park.

Image result for TOTARA PARK   This term Clendon Park School had a whole school outing to Totara Park in Manurewa. This was a great time for teachers to not only bond with the children in their classes but also gave them an opportunity to get to know the children's Whanau's/families.

The students showed values such as: Whanaungtanga (Sense of belonging). This is where the children got to know each other, teachers, parents and build positive connections/relationships with each other. It was really great to amount of  Whanau involvement in the whole school outing.

The Rangatahi also showed the Value Manakitanga through helping each other out and showing Arhoa and kindness towards one another. It was great to see sharing amongst the Rangatahi as well as team work when it came to team sports.

The rangatahi really had a enjoyable time at Totara park. Room 16 showed perseverance when it came to going for a bush walk. They kept going even through they were getting tired and there were 100 stairs to go up they didn't give up which was really awesome to see.

It was defiantly a great outing for everyone.
