Making Chinese Lanterns.

During Term 4 2016 Room 7 has been learning about Celebrations from around the world. One of the celebrations that we have been learning about is the Chinese lantern festival.

What is the Chinese Lantern Festival?
Chinese Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year. This is where people come together and decorate the streets as well as outside their homes and stores with beautiful bright lanterns. There are cultural performances and families gather together to eat sweet rice balls for good fortune and family unity.

These beautiful lantern colours are more than just a decoration but also a form of communication. Each colour represents something. For example, a red lantern has traditionally been seen as a means of joy and vitality when placed on door ways.
A white lantern meant the opposite such as death in the family.
Lanterns come in many different sizes and shapes. These days you can find them in shapes of boxes, lotus flowers, dragons etc.

Room 7 had lots of fun making these Chinese Lanterns with Miss Shiriwastow. Miss Shiriwastow also had lots of fun!!
