T During this week we have been learning about Diwali. Diwali is a special celebration that is celebrated by Hindu's all over the world. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. Just like people celebrate New Years, Hindu's celebrate Diwali which is knows as a new beginning for them-A celebration for a new year to come. Diwali comes from the Hindu word "Deepavai"which means row of lamps. During this celebration people from all around the world lights little clay lamps called Diya's. For Hindu's this is a very important part of the year which involves spending time with families, and performing traditional activities.
Room 16 really enjoyed learning about Diwali. They got to learn about a new culture that is part their teacher as well as another student in the class. It was great to see such excitement. We learnt how to do henna patterns as well as rangoli patterns and we also got a chance to make our own Diya's.
